It's a trap

We consumers are trained to believe that buying in bulk is the most economical way to buy.  So, when we're in the grocery store and we're looking to get the best price on items we use a lot, we should reach for the largest package, right?  Wrong! It's a trap!  That is, if the bulk item you're buying is Viva paper towels, Ritz crackers, Swiffer duster refills, or any kind of string cheese, to name 4 examples.  If you look at the shelf tag at the calculated price per item, the smaller packages are cheaper.  I've known this about Viva paper towels for years, but for the other items, it seems like a new trend.

I don't have any problem with the manufacturers for trying to make a buck, but I still want to warn everyone...it's a trap!
