I guess trick-or-treating is dead.

In our new neighborhood, people went all-out in decorating their houses for Halloween. As it got closer to the day, orange pumpkins could be spotted everywhere. So, I figured this is one of those neighborhoods where kids still trick-or-treat. I bought lots of candy and put it in a bowl by the door.

On Halloween, I lit up our jack-o-lanterns and left the porchlight on. We got a total of 3 trick-or-treaters, and only one came up to my door voluntarily. I had to drag the other 2 up from the sidewalk myself.

We only had 3 trick or treaters here too. Our street was almost completely dark. My neighbor said it was the worst year ever. We saw a few groups when we were out, but it was not too crowded.

I live near a shopping district and they closed off the street and had a block party. So of course all the kids went there, but I still had assumed they would trick-or-treat at houses on their way back home.
