Thanksgiving trivia

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here are some little-known facts that I learned on the History Channel.

  • Most American farm-raised turkeys have pure white feathers.  They don't look like the usual photos of turkeys that you see.
  • Turkey contains less tryptophan than chicken or cheese, so it's not to blame for your nap.
  • Cranberries are native to North America.
  • Most cooks agree that canned pumpkin is actually better to cook with than fresh pumpkin that you cooked down yourself.
  • Thanksgiving (or the Wednesday before) is not actually the busiest travel day of the year.  Air-travel wise, that Wednesday doesn't even rank in the top 25.  Car-travel-wise, it's the same as July 4th or other summer holidays.
  • The day after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for plumbers.
