Hot Like That

This past weekend (long weekend, we left Thursday) we went to a biker run in Laughlin. The trip did not go as expected, but we had a good time. For one thing, we didn't bring a motorcycle, so it was kind of difficult to participate in the day trips. In general, I like bikers. But if this had been my first experience with bikers, I might have come away with an unfavorable opinion. The desert heat and the show-off aspect of the run brought out some annoying characteristics in people.

One of the days we hiked some of the "mesas" or whatever you call them, in Arizona. We hiked back to our car through an area near a gold mine, and found gold lying on the ground. Not the shiny nuggets, but gold in it's natural form, I guess, as flecks in black rocks. We picked up pieces to take home to our niece and nephews.



After the hike, we went into the largest casino in Laughlin to find the beauty salon. I wanted to get a pedicure after being in boots all over the mountains. I think the temperature was only about 85, but there was not a cloud in the sky nor any shade to be found, so it felt like 105.



Laughlin is nothing like Las Vegas. It tries to be glamorous, but misses by a long shot. Only one of the casino hotels has a salon. And it's more like a closet. They were unable to take me on such short notice. I ended up in a nail salon at a mini-mall. The manicurist barely spoke English, but we managed to have a conversation just the same. At one point, a biker woman came into the salon and proceeded to have a dramatic conversation on her cell phone. Soon after, we heard loud motorcycle engines, and hostile voices in the parking lot. And a few minutes later, a man and a woman walked by, arguing, the woman in tears. I was concerned and I looked at the manicurist to see her reaction. She just smiled knowingly and told me, "Hot like that."
"Yeah," I said.
