{genealogy} Ida W. Rose

I inherited this woven blanket. It is signed Ida W. Rose, so I assume that she wove it herself. I know nothing about textiles, but I think this is pretty amazing. It would likely cover a king size bed. It's reversible and she wove her name in twice, once on each side. So whichever way you flip the blanket, there's 2 signatures, one facing the right way and one facing the wrong way. One weird thing is that her middle initial, "W." is backward in each signature. I don't know her middle name, but one genealogist has suggested that it is "May" which could mean that the "M." is upside-down and backwards. Her headstone is engraved Ida M. In the 1860 census she is listed as Ida H. In the 1870 census she is listed as Ida W.

When Ida Rose was born in 1857 in Michigan, her father, Edward, was 40 and her mother, Ann, was 28. She had one brother and one sister. She died on August 17, 1877, in Michigan, at the age of 20, of typhoid fever. She was buried in Pinetree Cemetery in Corunna, Michigan.
