Voodoo Doughnut is the strangest donut store I've ever been to

Last night PH took me to a place called Voodoo Doughnut. It is exactly like it sounds. It is a goth donut store. And it's not like it's a goth store that happens to sell donuts, like, if Hot Topic were to start selling donuts as some sort of gimmick. It's just a donut store. All they sell is donuts. There are no Tshirts or CDs or purple hair dye. Just donuts.

But it's dark and surreal and strange and when we walked in they were playing The Cure. That was actually the 2nd thing I noticed. The first thing I noticed when I walked in is that it smelled very, very good, like fresh donuts.

Sample donuts are in a rotating display case. There are lots to choose from, and some are traditional, but most are somewhat unusual. This is how I imagined a cupcake store would be, although no cupcake store has ever lived up to my imagination. Voodoo Doughnut would kick all the cupcake stores asses any day.

The unusual donuts had cereal or candy on them. Like the Captain Crunch donut or the Tang donut. I chose a cake donut with white frosting, dusted with something orange, with 3 mini marshmallows in the donut hole, and so the goth guy behind the counter went and got me one from the bakers racks behind him. They weren't skimpy with the frosting, but neither were they disgustingly heavy-handed (like they are at cupcake stores). The orange dust turned out to be some kind of tart candy powder reminiscent of pixy stix.

PH got a donut called the Baconator. It's a maple bar with 2 pieces of bacon stuck in it. I refused to have a bite, but he said it was delicious.

Instead of benches and tables, they had old school desks and rocking chairs.

I said all they sell is donuts, but that's not quite true. For some reason, you can also get married at Voodoo Doughnuts if you want to. You can get pretend married for $25, or for real married for $125. And they feature musicians on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on their stage that they call Club Doughnut.

It's been 24 hours since I went to Voodoo Doughnut and I'm still thinking the whole experience was quite surreal.

I actually went to Voodoo Doughnuts when I was in P-town! I bought 3 different donuts and shared it with my family. I got that baconator donut (and it's really yummy, tastes like breakfast), one with chocolate, peanut butter and something else and the voodoo donut... it was surreal :)
