My records (including his gravestone) indicate he was born in 1822 and died in November 1904 in Chicago (buried in St Boniface Cemetery). His wife was Katherine (Catherine) Varoquier Seng born 1821, died 1896.

Katherine and John Seng had several children, including: Claudius (June 1850 - May 1919), Lucy Seng born 1851, died 1940, Gertrude born 1857 died 1927, and the youngest and only child born in the USA, my great-grandmother, Agnes josephine Seng born July 4th, 1865, died July 1955.

My ninety year old mother (Agnes granddaughter) remembers "Aunt Lucy" and of course, her grandmother Agnes. Agnes was about six years old at the time of the Chicago Fire. Sadly we only have one family story from that fire that my great-grandmother told the family (there may have been more, but sadly, only one remembered).

At the time of the Fire, her family lived at LaSalle & Division Streets in Chicago (according to Agnes' obituary).

Does any of this data match up with anything you have on the family? Do you think Johannes John is (your) Wendelin's older brother?

Also, would you know if any of the Seng men were in the Civil War? It appears that my gg grandfather came to Chicago in 1860 but if other brothers and family were already here, wouldn't someone likely have been part of the war effort?

I apologize if this is to looooooooooong! And thanks for letting me run this stuff by you!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24108070.post-81869143972005718372017-09-12T14:09:14.446-07:002017-09-12T14:09:14.446-07:00Hi Mr. Leary,

Just a couple more things: Have you read this post regarding the origin of the name "Seng." It was very interesting. http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/seng/24/ Also, would you know what the connection between Wendelin Seng (and his company) and SENG TRUCKING in the Chicago area (their trucks have a big red heart on them with the name Seng Trucking)? I am sure that there must be a connection. Hope you have a nice day! (They also had a younger brother John Thomas.) Since Johannes-John didn't arrive in this country until 1864, it's unlikely that he was in the Civil War. When I was researching Wendelin and John Thomas, I didn't find any evidence of military service either.Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01050141568945340839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24108070.post-529371631599910412017-09-06T16:06:22.724-07:002017-09-06T16:06:22.724-07:00Not sure if anyone will get this comment since it&...Not sure if anyone will get this comment since it's been almost two years since the last post, but...

My name is Todd Ernst and my great-great grandfather was John Seng (born 1822), wife Katherine (born 1824).
